The Wind Instrument area of the Performance Department offers its students extensive, quality instruction in all facets of applied music. Private lessons and master classes with a faculty of distinguished artists/teachers, including many members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, provide individualized comprehensive performance preparation in all woodwind and brass instruments.

Distinguished guest artists present frequent symposia, master classes and workshops on campus and in the greater Pittsburgh area. Students have many chances to interact with outstanding professional performing faculty and guests, and are encouraged to participate in international professional instrument societies and associations and take part in performance festivals and competitions.
